Battlefront: Turn Down Before You’re Run Down – Manpreet D.
Road traffic accidents are a major killer of young people, and unless we do something about it, the statistics are only going to get worse. I personally know people whove been killed in road traffic accidents. The worst thing is that there are easy steps that can be taken to save lives. Ive come up with 10 action points to make British streets safer. I want to present these to the Department for Transport, and get them taken seriously. I want to create a fresh and more accessible Green Cross Code, with a focus on the dangers of using mp3s and mobile phones when you are crossing the road. I am passionate about taking steps to ensure our loved ones are safe. I think most people only require a little education about road safety to start making conscious decisions which could save their lives.
“55 Ways” wilderness adventure to Bird Point HD
This was the first in a series of Alaska wilderness adventure videos being produced based upon the popular guidebook: “55 Ways to the Wilderness in Southcentral, Alaska” by Helen D. Nienhueser & John Wolfe Jr. We chose Bird Point as our first outing even though it is not yet listed in the guidebook. Later in the day we went to Virgin Creek Falls which is also not in the book. Both places are “best-kept” secrets by locals. However, mostly due to local traffic, both places have endured a lot of trampling and degredation. Over the last 20+ years of exploring and filming in Alaska I have noticed that education is one way that these places may be kept beautiful yet accessible. The following saying is a great one to remember and pass-on… “Leave this place better than you found it.” For those who want to leave an area “without a trace” all the better. They don’t need to pick-up garbage or work on the trails or make a video. They can simply leave the place better than they found it which often happens effortlessly for those who really enjoy and respect the natural world. This was our first outing. The original destination was Virgin Creek Falls in Girdwood, but by 10am it was still pretty dark. So we went to the legendary Bird Point, a land that time forgot. David Lakota guided us there, though we chose a detour that brought us out onto the ice-berg laden notorious Turnagain Arm mud flats. Directed by Karen Toohey. Produced by David Lakota Stay tuned for more wilderness adventure videos by the Alaska Film School in both Hawaii and the Greatland.
