KLMS LISTEN TO YOUR WORLD 2 30s MAR 21 1980

Celebrating its 60th year on the air in 2009, KLMS 1480 AM in Lincoln, Nebraska is today a full time ESPN radio affiliate. But on June 1, 1959, the top 40 format was instituted and Lincoln’s Music Station was born. After it was purchased by Woodward Communications in 1974, and with AM radio still popular with listeners, KLMS became a real powerhouse. Not only did the station play the hits, but it gained a reputation as the information station as well. The award-winning 6 person news department was on top of all things Lincoln with live studios at the State Capitol and City-County buildings, instant coverage of breaking news wherever it was happening, mobile traffic reports, reports from Lincoln sports broadcasting legend Chuck Stevens, and lifestyle features like Lee Thomas’ popular movie reviews. These two commercials were shot on film (television cameras of the day could not look directly at the sun) and uses an out-of-market voice talent. Produced by Griffin and Engle, the final editing took place at KMTV in Omaha on March 21, 1980. Lee Thomas and Gary Claus (a/k/a Gary Collins) came up with the concept of “listen to your world Lincoln” and saw the campaign through to its successful conclusion.
