BEIJING (Reuters) – A Chinese man was pushed off a bridge by an angry passer-by after his threat to commit suicide held up traffic for five hours, Chinese media reported on Saturday.

Retired soldier Lian Jiansheng, 66, broke through a police cordon and reached out to shake the hand of would-be jumper Chen Fuchao before shoving him off the bridge.

“I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interests,” Lai was quoted as saying by the China Daily newspaper.

“They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities’ attention to their appeals.”

Chen, 2 million yuan (3,200) in debt because of a failed building project, fell 8 meters (yards) onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion and was hospitalized with wrist and back injuries. Lai was detained by police.

Chen was at least the twelfth person since early April to threaten suicide at the same spot, the Haizhu bridge in Guangzhou. But none jumped and — until Lian gave Chen a helping hand — none was pushed.

Stores were just closing and this 3 vehicle accident happened on a busy Mapleton Road this is where all the stores are uptown at the power center around 5:45pm. Moncton Fire Dept & NB Ambulance arrived on scene for the injured. Codiac RCMP were not on scene yet and road conditions were a little slippery from the snow we got yesterday that caused many accidents. 2 Tow trucks were needed at the scene. Mapleton and Plaza blvd were tied up for about 45 mins. There was another accident today on Dieppe Blvd 3rd accident on the same road since yesterday had multiple injuries in that accident also.

Recently I visited a famous landmark site called Mistley Towers at Mistley Thorn, Essex. Standing by the banks of the River Stour estaury, Mistley Towers are the twin towers of the now demolished Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Mistley in Essex. The original Georgian parish church on the site had been built in classical style early in the 18th century following the death of Richard Rigby Esquire. Later in that century there was a grandiose plan by his son, the wealthy politician Richard Rigby, to transform Mistley Thorn into a spa town. Rigby wished to see a church from the windows of his mansion and a suitably grand church was required for the affluent visitors expected to patronise the new spa. Thus in 1776, the great architect Robert Adam was commissioned to enhance the church. His design was in the neoclassical style, with a tower at both the east and the west ends of the church. These are now all that remain of the once magnificent structure. My aim was to visit the tower`s interior by arrangement with a keyholder with a view to capturing any evp or other paranormal event. Although I was able to tap into a number of spiritual presences, the opportunity for capturing good evp was somewhat diminished by the ever present road traffic – particularly large HGV`s travelling to and from the nearby port.
